World-famous universities, one-year master’s degrees that save time and money, and a multicultural student life – the UK is one of the most popular choices for students from Pakistan.
What you need for a UK Student visa
- An unconditional offer and a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from a licensed university or college.
- Proof of English – usually an approved test, unless your university can assess you.
- Proof of money for your course fees and living costs.
- A valid passport and your academic documents.
- A tuberculosis (TB) test certificate – required for applicants from Pakistan.
Costs to plan for
- Visa fee: £558 when applying from outside the UK.
- Immigration Health Surcharge: £776 for each year of your visa.
- Living costs you must show: £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to 9 months – held for 28 days in a row, ending no more than 31 days before you apply.

When to apply
You can apply up to 6 months before your course starts. Decisions from outside the UK usually take about 3 weeks.
Working while you study
At degree level you can usually work up to 20 hours a week in term time and full-time in the holidays (10 hours a week below degree level).
After you graduate
The Graduate visa lets you stay and work: 2 years if you apply by 31 December 2026, 18 months if you apply from 1 January 2027 (3 years for PhD graduates).
Family members
Most students can no longer bring family members. Dependants are allowed mainly for PhD or research-based postgraduate courses, or for government-sponsored students.
