Study in the UK from Pakistan and you get world-famous universities, one-year master’s degrees that save time and money, and up to two years to work after you graduate. This guide explains the costs, the visa, English tests and scholarships, with figures from official sources.
Why study in the UK from Pakistan
UK degrees are recognised by employers around the world, and most master’s degrees take one year instead of two – so you pay one year of fees and living costs, and start working sooner. Teaching is in English, many universities have large Pakistani student communities, and after graduating you can apply for the Graduate visa to stay and work.
UK universities for Pakistani students
Any university or college with a Student sponsor licence can issue a CAS, so there are many options. The right choice depends on your grades, budget and career plans rather than rankings alone. Fees for international students usually start at around £15,500 a year and can be above £35,000 at the most competitive universities.

Study in the UK after 12th (FSc, ICS or A levels)
Many UK universities accept the Pakistani HSSC (FSc, ICS, FA, I.Com) for direct entry to year one of a bachelor’s degree – the universities we have checked ask for roughly 60% to 75%, and some courses ask for more. If your marks are lower or your subjects don’t match the course, a one-year International Foundation Year leads into the degree. A level students usually apply directly. Keep attested copies of your certificates ready: some universities ask for HEC-attested degrees or IBCC equivalence.
Masters in the UK for Pakistani students
Most taught master’s degrees (MSc, MA, MBA, LLM) last 12 months. UK universities usually accept a 4-year bachelor’s degree (16 years of education), typically with at least 50–55% or a CGPA of about 2.5. A 2-year bachelor’s is usually accepted only together with a master’s degree, or through a pre-master’s course, and some universities accept a 3-year honours degree with a first division. Intakes are mainly in September and January, with a few in May.

- Tuition: from about £15,500 a year, depending on university and course.
- Living costs you must show: £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to 9 months.
- Visa fee: £558. Immigration Health Surcharge: £776 for each year of your visa.
- Deposit: most universities ask for a deposit before issuing your CAS – from about £1,500 to a full year’s fees. Some ask Pakistani students for a higher deposit.
UK student visa from Pakistan 2026
You need an unconditional offer and a CAS from a licensed sponsor, proof of English, money held for 28 days in a row and a TB test certificate from an approved clinic in Pakistan. You can apply up to 6 months before your course starts and decisions usually take about 3 weeks. English tests and studying without IELTS
For degree-level study you need English at CEFR level B2. You can prove it with an approved test such as IELTS for UKVI, PTE Academic UKVI or LanguageCert, or – at many universities – through the university’s own assessment. Scholarships
Pakistani students can apply for GREAT Scholarships (£10,000 towards a one-year master’s), Chevening (fully funded) and Commonwealth Scholarships, as well as university merit awards. See UK scholarships for Pakistani students for deadlines and tips.
Working while you study
At degree level you can usually work up to 20 hours a week in term time and full-time in official holidays (10 hours a week below degree level). Work must not replace your study, and you cannot be self-employed.
Graduate route visa UK
The Graduate visa lets you stay and work after your degree: 2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026, and 18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027 (3 years for PhD graduates). The application fee is £937 and the health surcharge is usually £1,035 for each year.
Family members
Most students can no longer bring family members. Dependants are allowed mainly on PhD or other research-based postgraduate courses of 9 months or more, or for government-sponsored students.
Are UK universities still accepting Pakistani students?
Yes, most are – but some have restricted applications from Pakistan. Since September 2025 the Home Office expects universities to keep their student visa refusal rate below 5%, and refusal rates for Pakistani applicants were about 18% in the year to September 2025. In December 2025, at least nine universities – including Chester, Wolverhampton, East London, Sunderland, Coventry, Hertfordshire, Oxford Brookes and Glasgow Caledonian – reported pausing or limiting recruitment from Pakistan. Some have since resumed or never published a restriction, and positions change by intake, so we confirm each university’s current policy for Pakistani applicants before you apply, and we prepare every application to a standard that keeps refusals low.
UK intakes and when to start
The main intake is September, with a second intake in January at many universities and a few courses starting in May. Start planning 6–12 months before your intake: shortlist universities, prepare your English evidence and documents, apply, accept an offer, pay the deposit, arrange your funds for 28 days and then apply for your visa. September places at popular universities fill early, so apply by spring if you can.
Popular courses for Pakistani students
Business and management, computing and data science, engineering, finance and accounting, public health and law are the most popular choices. Professional courses such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy and law have extra entry rules and sometimes interviews, and lab-based subjects usually cost more than classroom-based ones. Choose a course for the career you want in Pakistan or abroad, then pick the university.
Living in the UK as a student
Most first-year students live in university halls or private student accommodation, then share a house with friends. Rent is the largest living cost, especially in London. You will register with a local doctor (GP) for NHS care, which your health surcharge covers, open a UK bank account and can apply for a 16–25 Railcard to cut train fares. Halal food and mosques are easy to find in every major UK city.
