A Schengen visa lets Pakistani citizens visit Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180. The fee is €90 for adults, you need travel insurance of at least €30,000, and you apply to the country where you will spend the most time. This guide covers the steps and documents.
Which country do you apply to?
Apply to the country of your main destination, meaning where you will stay longest. If you stay equally long in several countries, apply to the one you enter first. No official page we read supports choosing an “easy” country, and a trip planned around one can be refused.
Embassies in Pakistan handle visas in different ways. Germany uses a waiting list and about 14 days to register. France handles visas in Islamabad only. Italy uses BLS in Islamabad, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad and expects residence in its jurisdiction. The Netherlands and Finland use VFS in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.

Documents you usually need
- Passport valid for the trip, and photos.
- Travel insurance and proof of accommodation and transport.
- Bank statements: Germany asks for 6 months with 3 months of salary slips, France for 3 months and Italy for 6 months.
- Proof of work, business or studies, and your ties to Pakistan.
- For family visits, an invitation from the host in the Schengen country.
No fixed minimum balance is set by Germany. Italy publishes a per-day funds table, which we check before you apply. Spain's per-day amount for Pakistan we could not confirm.
How the application works
- Choose the country of your main destination.
- Book an appointment or register on its waiting list.
- Attend with documents and biometrics.
- Wait for the decision and collect your passport.
Do not buy non-refundable tickets before the visa is issued. A visa does not guarantee entry, and you must leave before your 90 days end.
Reasons for refusal and how we help
Common reasons include weak ties to Pakistan, unclear funds or a trip that does not match the stated purpose. If you are refused, the embassy gives a reason on a standard form. We check your file before you apply. We cannot promise a visa. Compare other trips on our visit visa guide. Studying instead? See Germany, France and Italy.
Preparing a strong file
Build your file around one clear story: why you are travelling, who pays, what you do at home and when you return. Make dates, names and amounts match across the form, itinerary, bank statements and letters. Employed applicants should include a leave letter, and business owners should include registration papers and tax records.
Avoid last-minute changes of plan and unexplained cash deposits, because both invite questions.
Staying within the 90-day rule
The 90 days count across the whole Schengen area, not each country, and are measured over any rolling 180 days. Overstaying can lead to fines, a ban and trouble with later visas. Count your days before every trip.
Your visa shows the dates and number of entries it allows. If you plan several trips, ask for a multiple-entry visa and show a good record of earlier travel. Keep your insurance and ticket documents with you at the border.
