You will get 30 minutes to answer a number of questions, based on four pre-recorded audio tapes. There will be conversations related to everyday life in an educational setting. Two recordings will be speeches on an academic subject as well as social context. Your answers will demonstrate the understanding of the bases of the conversation, opinion and attitude of the speakers and your ability to follow how the idea builds up in the process.

Allocated time for this section is 60 minutes. It involves reading long texts taken from a large range of sources. The content includes such topics which is suitable for students applying for higher education. However IELTS general training will have contents on general topics in life that come up in English speaking environments. You will have to answer 40 questions. All this is tested to see how you comprehend texts and grasp the logical arguments. For academic IELTS the difficulty level is higher.
